Butter Midtown
This weekend we finally got to eat at Butter. Located in midtown, not far from the theater district, we made reservations for dinner before catching a show. The restaurant had been on our list of restaurants to visit because we often watch Chopped and other shows on the Food Network and are big fans of Alex Guarnaschelli.
Let me begin by saying that it does not disappoint! We began with a drink order: sparkling water and 2 ghost margaritas! The ghost margaritas were great. They had a hint of spice and the mango ice cubes were delicious. When they melt they sweeten the drink and the flavors blend nicely.
For appetizers, we ordered the Parkerhouse Rolls (of course!). They were served with sour cream butter and herb butter. We both thought the herb butter was the superior butter, but nonetheless they were both delicious. So much so that we ordered an extra order to go! We also went with the roll order for 4 both times! We added Di Palo’s Burrata and the Thick-Cut Veal Bacon. Wow! There’s an episode of Chopped in which Chef Alex is a judge and she questions and makes a comment to a contestant regarding his use of a specific ingredient. She ends it by saying it was “arrogant,” but that she liked it. Well, to Chef Alex, we would love to say that the Burrata and the Veal Bacon are arrogant!
I ordered the Pan-seared Branzino and K ordered the Beef Wellington. We added and shared the Grilled Broccolini as a side. The flavors in the branzino were insane! There was a really nice cook on the skin and the rainbow chard and lemon vinaigrette were delicious. There was this burst of deliciousness when you got the full bite with all the ingredients on your fork.
K loved the Beef Wellington! He was initially torn between that and the short ribs, but the waiter helped him decide on the beef Wellington. He liked it because it was this big, yet delicate piece of meat wrapped in a crunchy but tender and flaky crust. The mushrooms and sauce complimented the dish as well. However, he noticed they weren’t Hen-of-the Woods mushrooms. We meant to ask the waiter about it, but honestly all of the food was so good that we forgot to ask!
For dessert we went with the Raspberry Beignets. I’m not even a dessert person and I will order these each time I’m there! So so so good. It comes with a vanilla dipping sauce… Just order it and thank me later.
