Prayer
Today I prayed for the first time in my life.
I had prayed many times before actually, but those were all prayers that I had memorized from bible books of my childhood: Hail Mary, Our Father’s...
They weren’t genuine prayers from the heart.
Moreover, In the past even those prayers made up entirely by me and “from the heart” only came at times of need or deep sadness.
Today was different.
Today I prayed a prayer for my family that came from my heart and while there is peace, not need, in my heart.
I prayed out of gratitude.
I prayed to God and my ancestors and asked to them to bless our home. I prayed in my children’s rooms for their protection, and their development. I pray for their creativity, their inspiration, and their relationships with others.
I prayed in our bathroom for our daily cleansing.
I prayed in our bedroom for our love, connection, and unity.
I prayed over our dinner table and living room for our connection as a family, for meals to be shared in openness and in conversation, so that we are friends, as well as family. I prayed for physical, mental, and spiritual nourishment.
I prayed over our work space for professional growth, blessings, and abundance.
I prayed for our health.
And then I sealed my prayer by the front door where I prayed against the evil eye and negative energy.
I found peace in prayer today. For the first time.
